So, I have never had French food. Actually, I probably have. Many times. I mean, isn’t steak somewhat French? And french toast…mmmm! And french fries maybe? I dunno. But I have never been to a French Restaurant. Unless you count one of the fake ones at Paris Las Vegas…or La Madeleine for a sandwich. I mean a real French place. One that when you tell Siri you are hungry for French food and she replies with, “I don’t want you feeling all peckish, here are some choices.”
Last night we went to Chez Nous. It’s a quaint little place in the middle of Humble, TX. We have never even been to Humble. I found this online and it got superb ratings across several sites. They were right. It’s located in the middle of a neighborhood. From the looks of it, it’s an old house converted to a restaurant. We were later informed that it was a small church built in the 1930s. Our waitress told us they were turning 33 this year. I replied with, “Well we are turning 1!” She congratulated us and took our order. My lovely fiancee chose the Prix Fixe–a choice of an appetizer, entree, and dessert from a smaller menu at a fixed price of $40. French onion soup, goat cheese stuffed shrimp, and peanut butter cheesecake (I’m betting she got the dessert for me). I went with a roasted fruit and greens salad with vanilla bean dressing…yum! Oh, and of course steak–bacon wrapped beef tenderloin pieces.
Everything was so good! The atmosphere was great, the food was excellent. However, what impressed me the most was the dessert presentation. The staff spelled out “Happy Anniversary” in chocolate sauce and brought us a single candle with the cheesecake. How thoughtful! Little things like this make a good place great! We will definitely return.
Thank you Chez Nous for a great experience. And thanks baby doll for the best year ever. I can’t wait to marry you and spend many more days together like yesterday. It’s been perfect.
Sounds like a gem has been found.
